Although we’re sure you’ll be very happy being a Fleetwood Tenant, there may come a time when you want to end your tenancy with us. We’ve added some key information on this page to make sure ending your tenancy goes smoothly.

.

  • First fixed term – your first 6 months in the property is called a ‘Fixed term’ and you are contractually bound by the tenancy agreement you signed for the full 6 months. If you wish to end the tenancy at the end of the fixed term you can give us notice at the end of the 5th month. As the end of the fixed term approaches we’ll also have discussions with yourself and your landlord to make sure everyone is happy for the tenancy to continue, either periodically (month to month) or on a new 6 month fixed term.
  • Speak to us – if there’s a problem and you’re not happy in your current property you should let us know straight away so that we can either try and help to resolve the issue or offer you another property if something suitable is available.
  • Give us 1 months notice – Your landlord is entitled to 1 full months notice, so your notice must be received on or before the day your rent is due. For example, if it was February and you pay your rent on the 5th day of each month and you want to end your tenancy in March, you’d have to give us notice on or before the 5th of February and your tenancy would end on the 4th March. To submit your notice send us a short email or letter if you prefer, giving us your name, property address and let us know that you’re giving us a months notice.
  • Acceptance of notice – shortly after you send us notice, we will be in touch to let you know that your notice has been accepted. If you don’t hear from us then get in touch to make sure your notice has been received.
  • Pre end of tenancy inspection – to try to ensure you get your whole deposit returned to you at the end of the tenancy we carry out a pre end of tenancy inspection to check for any damage to the property. We will point out to you anything that needs attention to give you the opportunity to put it right yourself before the tenancy ends.
  • Preparing to leave the property – the property must be left in the condition it was when you moved in, with general wear and tear accepted. All possessions must be removed from the property (even if you no longer want them), the property must be thoroughly cleaned throughout to a professional standard including the carpets, oven and windows. Anything that isn’t done and is required to be able to let the property to a new tenant will be deducted from your deposit and will delay the remaining amount of your deposit being returned to you.
  • Check out – when you’re ready to return the keys we will meet you at the property to carry out a final inspection and check out. We will check the property is clean and undamaged, take final meter readings and collect the keys from you.
  • Return of deposit – as previously explained, if there is no damage, cleaning required or arrears then your deposit will be returned within a few days. Please note that the DPS requires tenants to accept the return of the deposit and provide bank details, the deposit is not automatically paid into your account.
